Holy tits boys did we find the best driving roads in the midwest or what?! More to come tomorrow, but as a small sneak peak of what I encountered on the Central Crown Rally I will tell you this, we ended up taking this route between checkpoints 2 and 3, and the route was much longer than the fastest one so no one else took it, we ended up taking a detour off this even longer route and ended up in what was only the best driving roads I have ever been on in my entire life. Switch backs, hairpins, decreasing and increasing radius turns, chicanes, blind turns at the bottom of big hills, it had everything.
We ended up taking so long exploring these roads that we were the last people to show in up Chicago that didn't break down and we had the biggest smiles on our face the whole time.

Wait, rally in Chicago? Two questions, how much was it, and where is it?

It was like 375-400 bucks maybe? I don't recall exactly. Started in Minneapolis, and received route cards at each checkpoint, each card had GPS coordinates to the next checkpoint that eventually lead us to Chicago. We had to take our cars on a ferry and through all these back county roads and the route eventually lead to the Wit Hotel in downtown Chicago.

Mmmmm, I was hoping for something a lot cheaper. I haven't even spent 400 on all the racing I have done ever(granted it is only 2 years worth)! Still I want to know about this amazing road, I live about 40 minutes from downtown Chicago, so I would like to know! I assume it is going to be in the next post about this.

It will be in the next post, but it's pretty far out of Chicago, we were only leaving Lacrosse WI at the time of Checkpoint #2 which is on the MN and WI border.

Oh, that is quite a way out there. I thought it would be closer to Chicago cause the rally was ending there. Damn, I guess I will have to stick to me 3 turn fun road!

Check out your local autocross group. Mine does rally, last one appearently was over 100 miles long. I haven't done it yet, but talking to the guys that have makes it sound really tempting. We're in Central Il, but the guys didn't stop stating that they managed to find curvy roads. I don't know the price but I'm I'd bet it's cheap.

I know the SCCA groups does road rallies if that is what you are talking about, which is what E30Joe went on. I am not sure how much fun they are. If they are atleast 1/2 the fun of autocross I might be in, if the price is right.

I'll hopefully be doing one by the end of the year so I'll be able to tell you for sure. I'm sure it will be plenty of fun though.

Haha of course! Just outside LaCrosse Wisconsin, on the WI side. There are all these county roads we nicknamed the Alphabet Soup because they are all labeled by letter.

Looks like fun - my (somewhat) nearby playground is NW Arkansas. Can drive all weekend and not run out of good roads...
